We have installed a floating laminated wood floor and I just love it!
It was easy to install, looks great, and is a breeze to clean - I just don't care for the finish. The house I grew up in had "real" hard wood floors that we kept waxed and buffed to a deep shine. Is there something I can do to the laminated wood floor to acheive I higher sheen? Would applying - say a bowling alley type wax and buffing it, work on laminate?
Thanks all,
Gina :c)

Would definitely check with the manufacturer of your floor and ask their recommendations so that you don't void their warranty. They typically have products available.

Don't try that. There is nothing you can use that will "enhance" a laminate floor.

i agree with JerryT - your laminate floor is already finished, like a polyurethaned floor, it requires no further layers of anything. nor would anything stick to it, as it has an almost Teflon-type finish which is why it's so easy to clean up. they're not supposed to be shiny as glass. it's a satin-type finish. enjoy your new floor as-is.

Here's that confusion thing again!!
Is this a laminate or a wood floor?? You said, "laminated wood" which makes me think it is an engineered cross-ply with wood veneer top layer.
Waxing is a big no-no, for anything but an originally wax finished floor.

Just wanted to send a thanks to all for the great information you'll share in this forum. A special thanks to Annette, Jerry, and DIYADDICT for your quick reply - and honesty. I think I will leave well enough alone with the finish on my floor.

Gina, I am not clear about this being a wood floater or a Pergo type laminate floor.
Is your floor a glue-less click type prefinished hardwood or did you use glue on the tongue & grooves??
There is a remedy for a wood floor. Wood floors can be screened & re-coated with a higher sheen finish. If done now it might void your warranty but it is possible.
Bona also make a good "prefinished" hardwood cleaner. :)

guys: i'm 99.9% sure she's got the fake Pergo-type "wood" ( ) floors now, because she stated when she was growing up, they had "REAL" wood floors. she's not in the flooring business, so she calls them both "wood" because they "look" like wood.
