Am refinishing wood parquet which has lost the original factory finish. Have found some info but need details. After sanding, vacuuming, tac, etc, is it practical to use wax only or is it necessary to apply polyeurothane, and if so, can wax be applied over the poly?

I did the same thing, except I sealed the floor with tung oil.. It really looked great... HOWEVER, I didnt wax over and have found that if water gets spilt and not cleaned up right away it leaves a white haze that I have to re-sand, and start over. I just called Formby's 800# and they said that YOU CAN wax over poly..... Good luck.

generally, wax & poly don't go together. there are products for wax floors, and products for polyurethaned floors, and you don't use one on the other. the more common & easier to care for choice these days is poly.
after sanding, and staining, use polyurethane. no wax or oil!
