I have just purchased a General-Aire 1042-DMM humidifier. I am preparing to install it on a Lennox Elite G-26 furnace. I have a couple questions however. First is which is better to mount the unit on? The return air or Warm air duct? I am assuming the return air but just want confirmation. The next is does it matter if it is mounted on the front or back of furnace. Likewise is it a big deal if the way it is mounted you have to extend the flexible hose to get it to the warm air side? Or is it better to put the unit on the warm air side and mount the bypass onto the return air side and keeep the supplied flexible hose?
The next 2 questions are about wiring. I have no HUM or EAC terminals on my board but do have a ‘HTG ACC” terminal that has 120V when the furnace has fired. I am to assume that this is the correct terminals for the transformer. Next is the question of mounting the transformer. It has the threaded fitting for mounting in a box but I am wondering if there is any harm in attaching a metal strap with a hole cut out from the existing boards mounting frame to secure the transformer. I’m thinking not but am curious if any one has any reservations about any of my assumptions.

I like to see them on the return, that way if there is problem, the water is not going to get into the furnace itself.

Do you run your fan 24/7?
If yes, then I'd put it onto the EAC terminals. (Is this 24 or 120volts?)
If no, then put it onto either HUM or HTG ACC.

NO do not attempt to drill on the control board. This needs to be mounted on the side of the furnace (some has knock out) or on a juction box.

I don't usually run my fan all the time so I guess I will hook it the HTG terminal.
As far as the transformer...I wasn't going to actaully drill the printed circuit board, however there is a metal housing that the circuit board is mounted to, there is already the circuit boards transformer screwed to this metal housing and room beloew it that I could either fab up a plate that the transformer mounts to or make aslot big enough to bolt it to. I'm thinking this would be better than having terminals (even if they are 24V) exposed on the outside of the furnace...or am I wrong?
