I am building a cabinet from my own plans and for the doors I need 1/2 inch inset hinges. Seems all they make nowadays is 3/8 inch inset. Does anyone know where I can get 1/2 inch inset hinges(decorative preferably) , or another solution to my problem? Thanks.

The 'other' solution is to simply use the 3/8" inset hinges in the 1/2" application. No one will notice but you, and you will lose some strength, but overall, it will be acceptable.

Thanks Lugnut for the suggestion, but I cannot see how that would work with inset hinges. Also, although I am an amateur carpenter I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist. Thanks for the reply - any more ideas anyone?

Hi pgtek,
Thanks for the reply - I would really appreciate more specific information, I have searched Lowes and the only inset hinges I can find are 3/8 inch. Where exactly did you find 1/2 inch inset? Thanks.

3/8" inset hinges are standard for 3/4" doors. Are your doors thicker?
Maybe an "H" hinge? Decorative, and both sides mount on the front of the door/frame.

Yes Herm - doors are 1 inch thick, made from two 1/2 inch pieces. The inner piece is set back 1/2 inch thereby creating a partial inset and the need for 1/2 inch inset hinges.

Try this site - I have the same type of hinges and need to replace mine. Found this while searching the web for solutions. Hope it helps. http://www.hardwaresource.com/Store_ViewProducts.asp?Cat=177
