I am installing a wall that will split a current room in half. The room has vaulted celings that are 13'. I am wondering, Do I need to remove sheetrock at attaching points for new wall, or can I fasten them with screws through existing sheetrock to studs on either end?

Welcome to the forums
You can screw thru the sheetrock. Is there sufficent framing where you plan to put the wall? Personally I prefer to cut out a 4" wide strip of rock which allows the framing to be screwwed in tighter. This doesn't cause any extra sheetrock work.

I agree with Marksr, as having something as "flimsy" as drywall between framing members just "Don't seem right". However, it would still work.
(It kind of gets back to the whole "Do you like vanilla, or chocolate ice cream" thing)
I hope this helps

I kind of felt the same way, it's not the best way, but it will work......but I read a thread where someone was putting a toe plate over carpet, and it got me thinking. Thanks again for the advice.
