Programmed thermostat set at 70 degrees.

Furnace does not fire up until the room temperature (where the thermostat is) hits 66 degrees. Then it runs until the room is 70.

And it won't turn on again until that room hits 66.

Thermostat is about 10 years old.

What type of t-stat do you have? The old Honyewell T87 stat?

It's a Honey Well Magic Stat. Not sure of the model number.

What's the life span of a thermostat?

Magic stats sounds old.. Most of the should almost last a long time.. Maybe a digital may last 10 to 15 years??

There is not much you can do with a digital stat. with that large of swing, it's off.

If it is not digital, & I don't remember if the magic stat is or not, make sure it is level. If you have the manual, there might be some kind of adjustment you can make.
