I need to cut off the final three feet of the main supply trunk in the basement and replace it with a piece that veers to one side at a 45 degree angle. There are two takeoffs in the final three feet and I will just connect them to the new part. I had an estimate of $850 for this project. It seems the trickiest part will be tieing in the new part to the existing trunk. Any suggestions on if this is something I could tackle. How do you tie pieces together if you cant usee custom made tin? I belive the trunk is 12" x 8"
Thanks, Jason

Unless there is a joint right where you want to start the angle , you need a couple of specialized tools. If there is a joint, just purchase an 8x12 longway 45 and it should be easy. You will have to extend one round pipe and cut the other and you will probably need another section of 8x12 duct because the takeoffs will be in a different place.
