Brothers and I are looking to buy an air compressor for my father. It is to install hardwood floors and then also do som other things around the house. He alos like to dio some woodworking. He is not a contractor only for personal use. Anyone have any recommednations on size? Lowes' has a 10 gallon for $200.

As you will find in reading some of the other posts, it is not the gallons nor the horsepower, it is the CFM or cubic feet per minute the air will move. The higher the better. Most air nailers especially framers will use alot of cfm, as will air sanders, air drills, etc. Check into the difference between oilless and oil type compressors as far as price goes.

Air nailers while using a lot of air are not used constantly thus a smaller compressor can usually keep up. Air sanders and drills which are triggered for a longer time can eat up the air fast. Since he will be transporting it from jobsite to jobsite - portability should be a big factor in the purchase.
