I have a humidifier attached to my furnace. Does it matter if the fan is set to automatic or manual? How does it know when it has reached the right humidity?

I have it set at 50% but we still feel it is dry in here.

Thanks in advance.

It's up to you if you want the fan on or auto.

I run our fan on all times. I have a variable speed blower, so it runs quieter/slower.

If your furnace runs a short cycle, or don't run much, it not going to add much humidity on the fan auto setting. What are your cycles like on the furnace?

What is your humidity leveal in your home now? 50% is high for some area.

If your fan is always running, make sure your humidifer only comes on when the heat comes on. Blowing cool air through a bypass humidifier won't do much except waste water (assuming bypass model).
