Maytag Peforma top loading washer...is very noisy, so noisy i have to turn it off when the phone rings. And it's a "quiet series", but about 10 years old 8. It started a few months ago with a loud THUD when it would stop...sounded awful. Now it is very loud and seems to be working itself to death all the time. I can move the tub over an inch, at least, from side to side. Where do i start? What can i check first and hopefully repair?

is that the only noise its making and only when it stops... if so your brake is grabbing to hard... his will need to be replaced and its a repair that reqires a special too...
