I recently purchased an existing home. In the rush of the transaction, move, etc., the previous owner did not leave the system’s access code. I have contacted the Real Estate agent(s) in an attempt to track down the previous owner to obtain the code. It has been almost a month; I am losing confidence that I will be able to retrieve the code through this means.

I downloaded the user’s manual. It discusses changing the code, not how to reset the system code. I tried the default system access code, it has been changed.

I called ADT. They said they could reset the system and sent out a technician. When he arrived, he said that he did not know how to perform this task.

Is there a way to reset the system code (similar to resetting the BIOS of a computer system)?

System: Concord Express (installed by ADT, and posses the ADT emblem on both key pads).

Assistance would be greatly appreciated,

Hmmm, I didn't know that ADT has been rebranding Concord panels.

Well, unless they did something radically unusual, that means that the installer code should be 6321. The problem you may have is that if there isn't an alphanumeric keypad, then there may not be a way to do what you need to do at the keypad.

The master code is changed at user programming level, and I'm not sure if the dealer code will access that. These panels are somewhat compartmentalized.

If ADT has been using the Downloader software for this panel, then they should be able to extract it that way. The worst case scenario, is that they have to default the thing.

You may wish to search online, a number of vendors have the installer manual for this system.

My two control units are identical. The key pads contain an A, B, C, and D, along with 0 - 9 numeric keys.

I will see if I can locate an installer manual. Thank you very much for the response.

Do the keypads display full words and descriptions, or is it just "Zone XX"? If the latter, then you have a fixed alpha keypad, and can't use it to program the system in more than a rudimentary fashion.

MrRonFL, if I understand your question correctly…when an alarm is received, the alarm sounds and the LCD screen, above the keypad, reads “Zone 04.” On the inside door of both control boxes is a hand written legend which decodes the zone to a fire, entry, glass break, etc. alarm. From your post, I take it that I have the rudimentary keypad.

My earlier post concerning the ADT emblem is a bit misleading. The ADT logo is stenciled (not a sticker) on the control box body, not the keypad. It looks like it came from a factory with the logo applied.

The installer is telling me that he would “upgrade” the box for $179.00. This seems a bit steep; especially if that is the price for each of the two control boxes (we have been exchanging voicemails). For $179.00, I am thinking about buying and installing new control boxes myself (if possible).

I was reading GE’s website. It appears that ADT should be able to download the existing control box settings (which implies the codes) using the GE Toolkit, over the phone line. Does anyone know if this is true?

Thanks again,

If that price for the keypad is the installed price, it's not out of line. Those alphanumeric keypads run about $130-160 retail from most sources that I know of. I think that the MSRP is in the 180 range.

Only one of the keypads needs to be an alphanumeric to program the system.

Typically, ADT does it's programming and setup using the remote software. I'm not sure why your local bunch seems to be stuck on this, especially if they installed the hardware.

Thanks for the price reality check.

If I go the replacement route which alphanumeric control unit do you recommend? You indicate that I would only have to replace one of the two control boxes; I like having a second functional control unit in the master bedroom.

I am not sure either. I have been trading voicemails with this particular local ADT office (actually the scheduler’s cell phone). I sought advice in this forum because I have encountered some very unscrupulous contractors since moving in a few months ago (I am new to the region).

Again, thank you for you help with this topic.

I'm cheap, I buy the keypad that's on sale that has the features I want. Any of the Superbus 2000 alphanumeric keypads will work. Put it in the location you are most comfortable with.
