I came across a diy show that explained how to build your own bed from scratch. For the life of me I cant remember where! I want to build my own 4 poster bed. I know I will have to buy the headboard and the 4 posters but can someone direct me on where to learn about doing this? Thanks
I love the look of this - this is what I was looking to do..

Would it have been on New Yankee Workshop? Norm has built a 4 poster, which was nice looking. You can buy cut plans and video from the program. Cost is about $25. Website is www.newyankee.com

Here is how I built my 4 post bed. I took 4 post that would normaly be on each corner of a small front porch. These were the smaller round ones that are common on older small wood frame houses. I cut two of them for the height I wanted for the foot end of the bed and did the same for the head end of the bed. The head end of course was taller. For my sides I used Oak and cut them I think 10 or 12 inches wide and then the length I wanted my bed to be. I built the bed to be a queen size. I then ripped a 2x4 down the middle and screwed each one on the inside of my side peices. This is where the slats will lay across to hold the box springs. I then screwed joice hangers on to the foot and head posts and sit my side peice in the hangers. I took the rest of the 4x8 sheet of 3/4 oak that I cut my side peices from and made my foot and head boards. I took some small fancy trim and made my desighn on the head and foot boards with the trim. Sort of like picture frame panneling that you used to see a lot of. Turned out great and really looks good. Everyone asks me where I bought it.
