My dishwasher will start to fill but then the water will just drain out of the bottom. When the pump turns on there is not enough water to do anything. Any suggestions?

Sounds like it is siphoning.. do you have the drain hose going to a air gap.. and also it needs a high loop to keep from draining back fm the sink

Check valve may have something keeping it open .. you will have to disassemble the pump to see if anything in there.... sears.com in the parts are put model number in and it will show you a exploded view of the pump...

My dishwasher pump makes a loud high pitch noise and smells like something is burning plastic or rubber. I'm trying to disassemble the impeller stack to check for damage and the screw holding the upper impeller is really tight. I don't want to force it the wrong direction and I can't from the limited documentation if the screw is right-hand or left-hand threads. Can you tell me if it loosens counterclockwise or clockwise?
Thanks
Thanks

I'm still trying to complete the repair on my Kenmore dishwasher model above. Thanks to help from Bambiblaster, I was able to successfully remove the screw holding the upper impeller in place and have disassembled everything down to the lower impeller. The lower impeller does not appear to be damaged but I would like to remove it and replace the seal. I can't figure out what is holding it in place. I have tried lifting it out by pulling up on the stem with pliers and tried rocking back and forth with no success. Is it threaded on? Can you tell me the proper removal technique? Thanks!

Kenmore model 587.15152401. Food particles dried up to dishes. Dish detergent dried up in main and preliminary door compartments. Heating element is on during washing cycles. Dishes are very hot after washing.. Is this normal? Normal cycle selected. Water presser is good. Arms are spraying water. Draining well.
Could any body help me to isolate the problem?
Thanks,
IK
