I installed a GE Caddx NX4 wired alarm system in a friends house about a year ago.

The system worked as expected for the first 7 or 8 months, but a few months ago his keypad stopped providing audio, i.e. it no longer beeps when you press a key or provides a warning tone during the Entry delay before the siren. I am not sure but I think his keypad model is NX1308 (If it's not, its very close)

Other than the loss of keypad audio, the system works fine.

Is it possible that he accidently set a config parameter to turn off the audio? or do you think the keypad just went bad? (I should note that he has no knowledge of how to enter setup mode and hasn't hacked around on the system)

I haven't had a chance yet, but I have been planning to temporarily replace his keypad with one of mine to see if it responds the same. As some of you have indicated in other threads the set up of this system is fairly complicated... so the config that I performed was limited to setting up his zones and user passwords. (i.e. I am no expert)

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

NX-panels aren't really that complicated. People tend to confuse them with the old Ranger series, which really were a pain in the neck. They do, however have a boat load of options, which can be overwhelming.

If you have the installer code, enter *93 + program code .

some of the LEDs on the keypad will light, LED number 2 should be lit. If it is not, press 2 and the sounder should work again. Exit keypad options by pressing *.

If not, the the piezo speaker in the keypad has probably died, and the only fix is a new keypad. Your notion of swapping the keypads is a pretty valid test.

Thanks for the advice. I'll give it a try this weekend.
