Our Whirlpool washer has developed a terrible shimmy durring the spin cycle. When it started, I thought it was because the load was uneven so I began to remove some of the clothes. The problem persisted even after I removed nealy all of the clothes.
The last couple of washings haven't been quite as bad but the machine is still definately shaking too much as well as a slight squeeling noise when spinning. Is there something out of balance that I could adjust? I checked the feet and the machine seems to be level.

btw. If it's time for a new machine, is there a consensus out there on the best front loader on the market? Best value I should say since I really don't want to spens $2,000 on a new machine.

Thanks.

Most drums ride on rollers. It could be that one or more of the rollers are damaged or worn. You will have to gain access to the drum supports to check this out. Still cheaper than a new unit. Good luck.

You may have somthing stuck between the inner basket and the outer drum. Look at all the holes carefully for a nail or screw that is jamming the basket.
One of the 4 balance rods or small bungi cord straps could be off or broken. Can you easily tip the top of the drum in one particular direction. Front , back, left , right ???
Another guess would be if you had a fluid filled balancer that lost its fluid or a broken clutch. See if you can move the inner basket while the the washer is turned off. Movement over an inch or two is bad from what I was told.
All guesses and offered as advice from a novice. I am having washer spin troubles as well but mine seem to be from a bad motor doing a slow , fast , slow , fast spin thing. Good luck and I hope you find an easy and low $$ fix.
