Hi All -

I have a stackable washer/dryer that came with my house. I'm guessing the unit is maybe three or four years old?

They have worked fine for the first 6 months that I've lived here, but yesterday, the dryer started behaving strangely. On a timed dry, it would just turn itself off after x minutes. If I set the dry cycle for 60 minutes, it might turn off 10 minutes in. If I waited a few moments, I could just turn it back on with the on switch (no need to adjust anything else). Almost like it was resetting or cooling down or something?

Then, this morning, the dryer didn't work at all. It won't start up. Oddly enough, the washing machine is now exhibiting the same behaviour. Won't power on when I pull the power knob.

I checked the breakers and the plug, which seem to be in good shape. I'm not sure where to go next - never worked on a w/d unit before.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It does seem odd that both dryer & washer are acting the same. It sounds like there is a problem with the power source. Even though both get their power from the same 220 volt cord the washer is only 120 volt & feeds off one leg of power coming in. I would check the connections on the unit where the cord connects to it & pull the cover off the recepticle & check connections there. Might be a bad connection resulting in a loss of one leg of power. Dave

1st off you need to use a volt meter to ensure you have 220 coming to the unit.. if so the dryer problem sounds like your motor is bad.. most likely clogged with lint.. you need to clean the vent thru the unit to the outside.. with a model number a may be able to tell ya how to access the insides... :coffee:
