Have a 50 year old band sweater that has yellowed and is moth eaten. Dry cleaners won't clean it. They said it may come apart. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
This is my first post so hope I've given sufficient information.

Your dry cleaner is on target. If you DIY, wash in cool water, mild detergent, and all fabric bleach. If it is not wool, you can soak in a powdered enzyme detergent like BIZ. Because you mention moth holes, it is assumed that the sweater is wool. Do not wring or twist during washing or rinsing. Gently squeeze out excess water. Roll up in towels and press out excess water. Dry flat.

Treat it gently. Hand wash in a sink using a gentle shampoo (wool is hair), and also add a shot of hair conditioner to the rinse water.
Air dry the sweater flat on towels.
