I was planning to replace my over-the-range vent with a microwave/vent combo. When I pulled out the old vent, it isn't plugged in, but hardwired. The wire disappears behind a stud in the direction of the fridge, but there's no opening behind the fridge. The microwave/vent combo I purchased needs a 3-prong outlet. Should I strip the wire from the old vent and install a GFCI outlet and plug the microwave into that? Or cut the wire, strip the wire from the microwave, and hotwire them together? How would I do either?
Thanks,
Dan (First time posting on the forum, but have used its posted advice much in the past)

Usually the way I do it is to drill a hole in the back of the cabinet above where the vent/microwave is to be installed. Run the existing wire up through it & install a ground fault recepticle. Make the hole big enough to also run the cord from vent/microwave & plug it in. Easier to get to if you have to reset recepticle. Dave

Thanks Dave! I appreciate you help and foresite on making the whole large enough for the plug :)
