I am replacing a way outdated dining room fixture...the kind that hangs over a table. In this process, knocking down part of the wall between dining and kitchen for more of an open look.
I have the light replacement...but am concerned on it's size. Bigger than the original one. Just trying to figure out if it is going to work? Is there a standard way of figuring this out. Like by the size of the room and height of ceiling. Makes sense to me, but don't know how that is done. And how far down can lighting go? It will be over a large dining table.
If anyone can help me. Thanks :)

As far as the size I think it is more of a matter of aesthetics than a hard and fast rule.
Normal height above a table is about 30" over the table top.
