I've just finished installed a Lasco 60" shower (model 1603). I'm now trying to install a set of Lasco bypass shower doors and have run into a problem. Click link for photo:

This shower is from the Lasco RemodeLine and comes in 3 pieces so it can be easily moved. I built an alcove from 2x4's to fit around the shower. The studs were straight, plumb and square but when I put in the shower base, the nailing flange did not fit flush to the studs. I tried pulling the flange over to the studs but it would not move much and I was scared of breaking the pan. So in my ignorance, I put shims under the flange to support it before I nailed it to the studs.

Now I've finished the shower I'm trying to install the showers doors but the vertical supports won't fit flush against the side of the shower. The shower wall sticks out at the join between the two parts (where I put in the shims). This creates a gap of about 1/4 inch at the top and bottom of the vertical support - see photos:

I could just screw the supports to the shower - they bend easily enough - but then they won't be vertical. However the door edge will be vertical and so won't fit fully into the vertical channel if I bend them and may let water spray out of the shower.

The only other option I can think of is to make some square spacers from flat aluminium to fit over the screws. I can make these thick enough to hold the vertical support straight. That will leave the 1/4" gap which I can fill in with caulk.

Is there anything else I can do to fix this? Any advice or ideas would be appreciated. Removing the shower and starting again without the shims is not an option!

Thanks.
