Hey Forumers,

What is "filter media"? Is it just a different term for filters?

Thanx,

Adam

Hello Adam.

A media filter is a filter that about 4 to 5" thick. They normaly are fitted into a housing rather than the ductwork itself.

media filters are better than a standard 1" filter that are pleted. The media filter has more surface area, and last longer.. They can last from 6 months up to a year.

Not trying to step on toes but the filter media we use at work is about 2" thick and its just a blue/white spongy fabric filter that can be easily cut to fit whatever size you want it to. They do a great job of filtering so long as you install it right with the white side facing the incoming air. They usually fit into a metal filter frame.

You have basically three types of filter you will ever run ito

Sandard - they blue cheap looking ones you see at walmart
Pleated - usually white and thick and have a pleated or zig zag look to the material and is supprted on one side by a metal mesh or bars
Media - what we just described.

Of the three for home owners I would suggest Pleated. For commerical business's that use several filters per unit, media may be cheaper in the long run.
