I've tiled a backsplash in my kitchen with 4X4 ceramic on a diagonal pattern. The counter is straight and has full height walls capping the counter on each end. There are upper cabinets which butt up against those two end walls.
I planned on bringing the tile out the 12" to align with the bottom of the upper cabinets. The final row will be a set of bull-nose that will run from the bottom of the upper cabinets to the counter. I started at a point dead-center and worked my way out to the outer walls and I need to transition out of the corners.
Here's the part where I need an experienced opinion... obviously the end piece tiles did not end up with room for a full size tile. So I've had to cut the corners off the end rows of the back wall. It seems to me you would want to continue the appearance of the tile around the corner so that the edges still line up with the back wall. Should I butt the side-wall tile up against the back-wall or would it look better to have a grout line between the two pieces? It seems like the grout line would create a visual break that I don't really want.

1/16 to 1/8" gap and caulk that corner with a matching color to the grout, don't grout it.:)
Also, if on a diaganol, you want the tile to look like it folds around the corner.:)
