hello,
I bought and installed two DSC Power 832 - 5010 systems about 6 years ago and now they have both died with in 3 months of each other that makes me think I did something wrong. But then maybe they are just old?
The first one lost A/C power, then the battery died. I restored the A/C, the keypad lit up for about an hour and then died and now will not work at all. I have done the some checking with my VOM and found the keybus and aux power outputs don't have continuity to the ground. I have done my best to check the PC box circuit but without a schematic, it’s kinda hard.
The second one died after the escort module go locked up so I removed A/C then D/C to reset the system. When the a/c and d/c was restored, the system did not come back up.
any ideas? is 6 years just the life of a 5010 and they need to be replaced? or is there some type of on board fuses link that needs to be replaced?
Does anyone have a schematic for the board?
thank you everyone for looking at this link and your thoughts
Todd

If you are in an area prone to lightning storms, DSC products do have a history of being a little sensitive to voltage transients. They have a fuseless design that uses Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) components to replace fuses. Unfortunately if a transient passes through the transformer, this device can fail catastrophically and kill the whole DC power supply.
I'm told that more recent models have a better device, but since I'm in lightning -prone FL, I only install DSC at specific customer request.
