I've got a light switch that controls a ceiling fixture in the foyer of the house.
The light went out the other day and I tried a known working bulb to no avail.
What's the best way to test whether it is the switch or the fixture that needs replacing? Obviously I'll be shutting down the power at the main breaker first.
Thanks,
rhs

The first thing to do is to analyze any clues you may have about what events coincided with when the light stopped working. Something must have happened.
If nothing jumps out at you, then spend 50 cents and replace the switch.

Unfortunately John, I wasn't home when the light stopped working.
It's one of those switches that control two lights...two switches in one box controls the foyer light on the inside and the outside porch light.
I'll cut the power and R&R the switch.
Thanks John,
