Breathing fumes of kerosene in car is not healthy. Too, fumes are flammable and volatile. Depending on size of spill, you may have to remove the carpet in order to clean the floor below. Spills not only settle downward but outward several times the size of the surface spill. Water-based cleaners are usually not effective on oil-based stains because water and oil do not mix. Carpet can be blotted with denatured alcohol or dry cleaning fluid. Coffee grounds, activated charcoal from the pet store, and kitty litter are frequently recommended for absorbing odors. Place some in a pan and slide under the seat.
