We have 3 toilets and almost on rotation, one always seems to be leaking. This time I bought several different brands/models and found out that the more one costs doesn't mean it works better. While looking around I ran across a couple of "power flush" type units that replace the flapper as part of the power flushing system. I was wondering if you guys have any comments on which is best and where you recommend buying them. I figured if I could take care of my flapper leaking problems and get a more powerful flush in the deal, great. What do you think. Thanks for your time. Joe

Hello: Joe
Been there and done that. Did not work well for me and with the brands I have..... :wall: Only real solution I found to stop water from passing around and under the flapper was to buy the OEM flappers. Generics did not work. Elgers did.
Why? I suspect the seal of the generic flappers did not exactly and perfectly match the seat of the flappers plastic seal ring. Slightly different overal diameter and shape to the flapper. Difficult to see with the eye but there is a slightly difference in shape and seal angles to both flapper and seal ring.
Thus, all generic brand flappers did not work. One toilet I replaced the entire fill valve flapper and flush valve assembly. Solved that problem....

Might not be the reason, but we see a lot of leaking flapper valves because tenants put bleach tablets in the tank in an attempt to keep the bowl clean. Bleach softens the rubber on the flapper valve and it loses its seal.

Yeah, I know about the bleach thing and I always check the mating surface. Our toilets are American Standard, circa 1984, and I know I replaced the assembly we're talking about on one or more so buying OEM flappers would probably be moot. Did anyone try these Power Flush units?
Thanks, Joe
