The tile in our shower is getting old and we want to update the look. Anyone ever use solid surface material, Corian , for the surround? Seems like it would be very easy to keep clean.

Not corian, but we have a local shop that does cultured marble. They make the pan, which is solid, and also the walls, which fit into the pan like a glove. Options include soap holders, shampoo indents, etc. They are quite reasonable, compared to a full tile job. There are basically no seams, and the ones at the bottom are epoxied to the pan, so basically you have a solid mass. Check into that locally for you, and go see their operation. They should have samples of their work in a showroom or they can show you a job in progress. Good luck.

Actually if you want the corian for the bathroom, it is called Swanstone. Yes it is very nice to keep clean and is basically the same product. Also the manuafactuer says that its OK to install this directly over tile, but you will have to do the prep for it. Good luck, you can find Swanstone at Home Depot.

Corian is absolutely the best material for a shower. It's lighter than marble or granite, so it's much better for second-story or higher bathrooms (also, no need for a mud base or liner). Read more about it here (www.showerbase.com).
