If so how much damage can I do if after I knock out that plug for the dishwasher drain that little plastic plug goes in the disposal?

Three choices -

1. Let the disposal eat it (could take a while depending on the plastic). It will be noisy and take a while, but not as bad as if it was metal.

2. Get someone (like your wife) who has small hands fish it out (carefully, with tape over the switch or with the breaker flipped).

3. The plumber that forgot to remove mine before installing used my barbeque tongs to fish it out.

I carry long, probably 9" hemostats just for such emergencies. They are great for fishing small screws, etc. from places my fat hands won't reach.
