I want to put a new fiberglass shower-tub combo in a place where there has never been a shower or tub of any sort.
I have several questions about this.
I know to fasten flanges of this unit to wall studs. The walls I have in mind are paneling over sheetrock. Is it necessary to remove the paneling and sheetrock to expose the studs or can I just fastened through then cover old wall and flanges with greenboard?
The subflooring in this area is new plywood, at least 1", can't remember exactly, 2x6" joists and whatever you call those crossbraces between joists. Is there anything else I should do to reinforce the loadbearing aspect of the floor?
Lastly, I read in a post on this site that there should be a mortar bed under a fiberglass shower or tub. What is that and how is it done?
Any help, advice appreciated. Thanks.
And, boy, this is just a great place to learn things
