HI,
I hope you can help! My toilet is not flushing anymore and I hear gurgling sounds from the shower and sink. I have used a snake on the main drain line from the toilet to the septic. (but not on the toilet itself). I did not hit a blockage but I did hear water sloshing about in the pipe. The septic is not full. I also had to clear out the vent pipe which was blocked with 3" stoppage (like pressure sent it up the vent pipe). The drain flows from the toilet, bathtub, sink, then vent, then to the septic. What could be the problem here? Do I need heavy duty drain cleaner or powerful snake? The pipes are all new, replaced them this summer. The toilet had worked fine (it is brand new). Shower and sink are draining fine. I can't figure it out! Please help!

treasurefolk, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
You MAY have something blocking the trap in the toilet but it sounds more like a vent problem. Drains need air to work properly. Vents are where the air is supplied from. Usually, the gurgling is the traps on other fixtures being sucked out. Did you flush out the vent with a garden hose after you cleared the blockage? It may have re-sealed. You may need a heavier snake pushed through the line from the opening for the toilet. You may also want to try an enzyme drain cleaner such as Draincare. Enzyme cleaners cling to clogs and eat them. They take overnight to work and may need more than one application but do work. Safe for septic systems also. Good luck.
