water seems to be leaking from my toilet handle.

i let a little water out of the tank to put the water line below the handle and it appears to be fine, even after flushing a few times the water level stays under the handle.

but then the leak starts again. how is the water getting back up? and why would it continue to leak?

i've adjusted the chain to be shorter to see if this works but decided to post here in the meantime.

ideas? suggestions?

thanks in advance.

Hello: 74SIMON. Welcome to the Do It Yourself Web Site.

If the fill valve does not constantly maintain the preset water level, replace that fill valve. It's the only solution if in fact the water level rises.

Best as I can determine based upon your problem description. Which implies but does not specifically state the water level rises after several usages. Which is about the only way for water to leak out of the flush lever, unless I am missing something....???? Explain in more detail, if needed.
