We had a roof leak. The ceiling in our dining room is textured. More of an orange peel type texture than a popcorn or cottage cheese. I have repaired the area where the water damaged the ceiling. It was mostly along a seam. I reaplied dry wall tape, re-applied the sheet rock compound, but of course the ceiling now has an area of flat and not textured surface.

I know you can get sheet rock texture in a spray can, but I also know spray cans don't work well overhead. I am sure it would make a big mess on the floor and anything else in the vicinity, including my hair and face.

I have arthritis in my neck and can't do much overhead work without suffering pain for days.

Is there going to be an easy do-able by me, way to blend in the repaired spot. There is no way I am going to be able to re-paint the whole ceiling with the arthritis problem and the dear husband is absolutely useless when it comes to any kind of home repair. I will just have to try repainting myself with an extension roller. I just need to know how to re-texture that one area.

After laying carpet around eight years ago, I still have no baseboards in the hall.

Can anyone give a me a clue as to how to repair my ceiling.

I think Zinsser has a 'texture in a can' product that is made to shoot up.
Look here. (http://paint-and-supplies.hardwarestore.com/50-276-ceiling-patch-and-textures/spray-texture-touch-up-kit--610774.aspx)

If that doesn't work for you, you can duplicate most textures [other than popcorn] by thinning joint compound. You may be a ble to replicate the texture with thinned down mud and a sponge.

I understand the neck pain - I also have arthritis in my neck along with my whole spine. I often find it helpfull to look at the ceiling once before getting on the ladder and then doing most of what needs done by memory to avoid tilting my head back any more than necesarry.
