Assuming I’m going to guarantee my work for two years, touch up paint could be a big issue. I also assume giving the leftover paint to the customer to store in a safe place may be wishful thinking.
Is it customary for a painter to keep hundreds of cans of touch up paint on hand?

It all depends on the job. Giving the customer the leftover paint is usually the best way but there will be times that you will need to keep it. Most important is to keep GOOD records. Depending on what you are warranting you may need to purchase more paint if the need ever arises.
It is good to stand behind your work but you may need to let certain customers know your not their free maintainence painter.
