Unless you have an unusually large jig saw, or a very small reciprocating saw, they are nothing alike. The jobs they perform are not similar in the least. A jig saw is used as a running line cutter on things such as plywood. A reciprocating saw can be used for demolition (my primary use for it) or cutting in places where the foot of the jig saw won't allow it. They both have their own jobs.
One rule of a remodeler - reciprocating saw--never leave home without it.

ah-yup,got it. I would probably have more use of the jig saw than the reciprocating( correct spelling :-) saw. I am the guy that creates the things you need the reciprocating saws for."smiles" THANX BOB
