A friend of mine has a carpet cleaning business and one of his customers asked if he could clean their Brazilian Cherry floors. He considers me a jack of all trades so he asked me, and I could use some extra cash... I have experience with buffing and waxing in the past, and the guy knows this is not my expertise. It's a floor in a restaurant and he said in the past, they've used a buffer with a green pad to thoroughly clean it before applying new oil, but that I don't need to strip it down to fresh wood. He said something like walcott oil, which I'm not familiar with, but I asked if it was like linseed oil and he said yes. Good--I've worked with that!

My question is this: should I be using any type of liquid (mineral spirits?) with the buffer and the green pad, or just do it dry? The floor has mainly just black scuff marks from shoes and some food and beverage spills.

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Edit: After further web research, I believe he must have been talking about Watco Rejuvenating Oil.

The Watco product should dissolve any wax and soil on floor. It will remove minor scratches, scuffs, and stains. Read and follow product label directions. Watco recommends application with steel wool pad. Some manufacturers recommend green Scotchbrite pad for removing scratches and minor stains.
