Removing the tile was accomplished using 2lb hammer. Any suggestions on how to remove the cement backerboard? The adhesive is stuck to the backerboard, and I can't see where it is nailed/screwed down. Should I stick a prybar or crowbar under the edge and attempt to pry it up? This is installed on a crawlspace - I don't want to tear anything up! Thanks.

Yes, use a pry bar. Wear respiratory protection with a NIOSH rating of N95 or better. Cbus have some pretty harmful dust.

I used a 2lb sledgehammer, then after cleanup, used a prybar to slip under a corner of the backerboard, and PRESTO! Everything is gone down to the sub floor - ready for the new hardwoods!
