I recently had new windows installed and the company caulked the inside trim with a 100% silicone caulk. I am now getting ready to repaint this trim. Is there any primer that would stick to this caulking? I am trying to remove it from 1 window and 3 hours later I have about 90% of it removed but it sticks like there is not tomorrow. Is there another kind of caulk I could put over top that would stick and be paintable? Any other methods of removal besides scraping it off? The one thing I do have going for me is the caulk is white and I'm painting the trim white. I guess I could paint up to the caulk. Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Zinsser's BIN shellac-based primer-sealer will
Clean up the caulk good, a rag dipped in thinner is good
The BIN should stick
You can then paint over it

Wow, that was fast! I'll give the BIN a try. I would like to re-caulk the 1st window. Will another type of paintable caulk stick?

Try BIN today and it fish-eyed immediately. I also have some CoverStain and it seems to be sticking okay. I'll know better when I put on the first coat of paint.

There could be a reason or two the BIN is not sticking, but if the CoverStain works...go with it

Often it takes 2 coats of primer over silicone.
