I just had a friend lay ceramic tiles in my kitchen and the grout around a couple of them is crumbling and cracking. Why is this and how can I fix it without removing a tile. My friend has only done this a few times and it looks good so I don't want to hurt his feelings about the problem if it is something I could fix on my own.
thanks,
Summer

Cracking grout and/or tile is a sign of movement in the floor.
Question#1 was the floor checked to see if it would support a tile installation?
Question #2 what is the size, span and spacing of the floor joists?

What substrate is under the tile, what did he set them with, what type of grout, tap on a few tile with a broom handle or golf ball, do they sound hollow? :wall:
