Hello. We're going to be converting our 1.5 car garage over to a workshop that I can run my business out of. The garage will be fully insulated and dry walled. We'll also be installing a new furnace and want to add AC to the workshop as well. The garage measure roughly 24 x 18 (432 sq feet). The AC unit we'll install will most likely be a wall mounted unit (similar to a window unit) but will mount in a opening specific for the AC unit. Here's my questions:
1) Can all window units be installed as "wall mounted" units?
2) How many BTU AC unit would suffice for us? We live in Iowa and the summers can and do get very hot and humid.
3) What's the best way to construct the hole and weather/water proof the opening?
Thanks!

Not all window units will fit as a wall unit..
You want a unit that has a shell that the guts can pull out as needed for service.
They do make units that are made jsut for walls.. I think you are best to go that route than taking a window unit and make it into wall unit.
not knowing where you are at. hard to say how big of a unit.. My guess 8 to 10,000 BTU.

Thanks for the reply! Is a wall unit something that I can purchase at Lowes/Mendards/Home Depot or is that a special order item?

We at Home Depot did have a couple of units that did have a sleave in stock.. this may vary from store to store.. How ever, we do have a book call "Maintenanc Warehouse" that we can order a wall unit from.
You may have to stop at the Pro desk or Special serice desk to see this cataluge.
