I always seem to have this problem. On the first floor of my townhouse, I pulled up part of the edge of the carpeting by the wall to run some wiring for rear surround speakers. I had a heck of a time getting the carpet to go back nicely onto the tack strips. Now I need to pull a little edge of carpet up upstairs in the living room to seal a small air leak in the sub floor (from the unconditioned cold garage below). How can I get the edge of the carpet back on the tack strip and everything nice and tight and tidy? I read some about carpet stretching elsewhere in the forum, but is that really necessary for pulling up a little bit of carpeting in a corner, or is there an easier way to do it? Thanks for the help.

-Neil

P.S. I should mention that, if I recall correctly, I think they slightly tucked the carpeting under the baseboards when the house was built. Not sure if that makes a difference.

The lack of stretch is why you fought it the first time.

Don't put the wires between the tackstrip and baseboards. Place it back inside between the cushion and tackstrip. I notch the tackstrip where the wires run back.

How do you re-stretch it if you are just pulling up a corner?

Pros won't like this and my they should probably correct me but I kick the heck out of it with my foot. I kick it tight over the tack strip.
My dogs peed in a corner of the living room. I pulled up the carpet about 6 feet from each corner, kilzed the floor, replaced part of the pad and kicked the carpet back in place.
This was about 2 months ago. I pull my couch out every 2 weeks to vacumn behind it and so far nothing has gone wrong. Fingers are crossed.
PS: I removed the baseboards first.
