I'm considering putting in Corian (or Corian knockoff) countertops in our kitchen and came across the folks at http://www.solid-surface-kits.com/. I've seen units installed on TV and it looks relatively easy since you can use normal woodworking tools to do the final sizing, etc. Seaming it also looks pretty easy.

Having put in hardwoods, wallpapered, done plumbing work, built a couple decks, etc, I like to think I'm a decent handyman. Am I missing something? The only reason I would try it is that it APPEARS to be a big money saver. Any comments are welcome.

Thanks.

I've seen my friend do a DIY install of prefab granite countertops... Looks easy, I think the Corian will be the same. You can probably get prefab granite for the same price as the Corian (or Corian knockoff).
