I recently had someone come out and put a digital thermostat for my heat pump. I remember the outside unit going on whether or not it was on heat or cool. Now when I turn the heat on, the outside unit does not come on. It still comes on when the AC is turned on. Did they not hook something up correctly on the Thermostat? I still get heat out of the vents.

thanks

Replacement thermostats for heat pumps can sometimes be tricky, especially low end/budget type models. If you are getting heat and your outside condenser is not on, then it appears you are using expensive emergency heat strips only. This is not how a heat pump should operate. You should call your thermostat installer back out to take a look.

Good LucK!

thanks for the help. I dug out the book and realized the thermostat was programmed to factory default. It was set to a multi-stage system instead of a Heat Pump System Configuration. After I switched it to the Heat Pump Config the outside condenser comes on now under both heat and cool.

Thanks Again!!
