Re: Must replace AC and furnace together?

Small brick bungalow in the midwest. Standard-issue forced
air, upflow furnace, central AC.

Both furnace and AC are 20 years old. Furnace may well
last another 2+ years, AC needs to be replaced in the
spring.

Is there any practical way to -plan- a time-staggered
replacement of furnace and AC? For instance, replace
AC this spring with knowledge that a particular
compatible furnace can be installed a few years later?

Please note: I don't need to be told about relative
AFUE ratings on old vs new furnaces. Don't need to be told
about relative prices either.

Old eqpt. is Carrier if that makes any difference.

TIA,
Puddin'

Price wise in the long run, you are best to replace both.. That way everything is fitted together..

otherwise, if you do the A/C in the spring, it jsut going to fit on the current system. then comes fall, you are re doing the last work done in the spring.. So in a way, you maybe paying double in labor.

Do now and you will have a matched system.

You'll be happer in the long run.

Where in the Midwest are you?

St. Louis, MO.

I dunno if I can *afford* happiness in the long run. :-(

Reasonable to assume that noone's ever even -dreamed- of
"standard" furnace height, plenum dimensions, etc for
these incredibly common residential applications?

Most equipement are in the same size range.. Not that major diffance..

You may want to give the dealer heads up what your plans are.

Some company like Trane can offer a payment plan on a "loan".
