I am a new member and didn't see another thread with my specific question. I had a brand new electric Payne air handler installed upstairs this summer (old one got fried). I have a Carrier compressor outside. I have been running the heat lately and have only been getting cool air from the vents. The only way I can get warm air is to put up the thermostat a few degrees higher to kick in the aux heat. I looked outside and the compressor is not running. The compressor runs when the AC is on but not the heat. I pulled the electrical panel off and blew out some cobwebs and nothing looked abnormal that I could tell. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Did you or they put in a new t-stat??
Pull it off, and check the wires, and let us know.

I installed a Ritetemp 8050C. However, I did it because the house wasn't heating up with out going to aux heat. I don't think the compressor was running then either. Here is how the wires are:
Black on C
White on W2
Metal jumper connecting RC and RH
Orange on O
Red on RH
Yellow on Y
Green on G.
One other thing. When I pulled it off and checked the wires, I found the white and black wires (connection) didn't move. I loosened them up a little to get the connection to move freely. It didn't help.
Thanks for the help.

I put the jumper in and still no luck. The switch is on heat pump. The outside compressor does come on with AC. Any more suggestions?

It turns out it is working. I am guessing the jumper did the job. I hadn't realized that the outside unit was turning on until this morning. I went to the thermostat and it was actually warm and warm air coming out of the vent. I went outside and the unit was on. I checked it a couple of times and it worked each time. I didn't realize it takes a minute or so for it to come on when I push up the temp. I thought it worked like the AC and came on immediately. Thanks for all of the help. I had a HVAC guy coming out and it saved me at least $55 for the service call. Have a great Christmas and New Year.
