I installed a Radio Shack wired perimeter alarm system 35 years ago in another house. It still sells for $100 and was 100% dependable.
Now That I'm retired and in a townhouse I'd like some noise if someone broke in. I saw an electronic $100 system at Radio Shack that had a control panel, two window transmitters and a motion sensor-I'm not sure of the type of sensor.
It will call some phone numbers in the event of intrusion and has a decent # of decibels.
Far short of perfect I know but I wondered if you had an opinion about this device. Too old to do much installation and not enough $ for soup to nuts, like most people.
Thanx.

By chance you would'nt have the Radio Shack model in mind. I've looked over Internet to find the type of devices they would have..out of luck

Often it is an infra-red motion detector. The infra-red motion detector is in fact a temperture comparator. To understansd it's like an open hand and the detector compare the temperature between each fingers. If temperture is higher or lower than the other it will trigger in alarm.

Often the best installation height 7' but better look in the installation manual.

You have to take care where the detector will be installed. If you have an air conditionner, sudden air fluctuation or window opening could trig it off.

It is also affected by direct hit of sunlight. You must take great care if install in East or West side (must avoid direct sunlight hit) :wall:

>> For some reason I never got an email notification so sorry about the delay.
I haven't had a chance to get the model # but will. I appreciate the explanations especially falsely triggering the alarm b/c of the motion sensor-I'll read the manuel well on that issue.
