I am making a cornice board with drapery under the cornice. The window has blinds mounted on the outside of the frame and so how deep should the cornice be to have a stationary panel and half drapery under it? How do I hang the Drapery with the blinds sticking out so far? I would like to make the cornice 6" deep but I think I may need 8" (my hubby will shoot me he cut the boards to 6" ) I was thinking of stabling the drapery to the cornince board. The drapery are made of linen and interined so they have some weight to them. Very confussed please help. :(

Are you making a cornice (a wooden valance, with or without fabric), with draperies underneath, or are you making draperies to be mounted on a board (called a mounting board)? Since they're going to be stationary, you'll need the board to project 2" more than the blinds, so you'll have to measure how far your blinds project when open. You don't say, so I don't know if you need a 6" or 8" board. If you're making a cornice, you won't be able to staple the draperies on the same board. You'll need to make the cornice separately and that would need to be 2" larger than the board for the draperies.

I am making a fabric covered cornice board with drapery under it. The blinds come out from the wall 3 1/8 " when open. If I use a 6" board is there enough room for the drapery and how do you mount them. Where do I find a rod with that large of a return. I should also say the window is 100" wide. Any help would be great. :(

Ok, there's several ways to attach the panels to the cornice, but the easiest way would be to buy shirring tape and sew to the tops of your panels, gather them up, and sew velcro to that, on the front, and staple the hook part to the back of the cornice, and then just velcro them on. Then the 6" board should give you plenty of clearance. Or if you prefer pinch pleats, you can put screw eyes up in the dust board and hang the panels on them using drapery pins. But if you want regular size spaces, you'd probably have to use an 8" board, or else make small spaces, say 2 1/2 or 2 3/4", and put the screw eyes back 1 1/2" and this should give you enough clearance to use the 6" board.

Thank you so much for all the ideas. This is going to make the job much easier. I think I am going to use the velcro idea. Finding this forum was the best. Thanks again you have made my day
Happy Holidays. :o
