Hello All,
First time poster to your forum, but hoping someone can give me advice on how to fix the following problem.
I have a DSC 5010 panel and recently changed to NextAlarm for monitoring. The web interface they provide allows you to see the alarm codes for your systems activity. I was receiving the System Close msg when I armed the alarm, but not receiving the System Open msg when I disarmed the system. I looked at section 339 (Closing Reporting Codes) and section 344 (Open Reporting Codes) and everything was coded FF. I'm using ContactID and read that FF was to disable reporting a code. I set these codes to AA per the DSC Appendix A, and now I don't even get the System Close msg. I was previously receiving, so obviously I'm missing something here. I'm new to working with Alarm Panels, but have spent some quality time with the two install docs and I have the installer code for the panel.
So, who can tell me what needs to be set to have the System Close and System Open codes sent to my monitoring company?
Thanks in advance for you help.

Ahhh, a specific question. Setting up contact ID on a DSC power series panel is a bit more involved than most.
You have the install manual and program sheets, it's not hard to do, but you need the appendix at the back of the manual for the correct codes.
You need to enter the code for each user code that you want to report open and closes: A2 is for closing/opening You also need to put that code in the appropriate segments of section 343 and 348 if you use things like the quick arm function.
It's easy to overlook, the codes are at the bottom of one page and the top of another.

MrRonFL,
I spent A LOT of time with the installer manual and Appendix A yesterday and have it working correctly now. You are correct that it isn't hard once you know what it is expecting, just takes a bit of a learning curve to get through that documentation - so incredibly scattered all over the place. I had not populated the 343 and 348 with ContactID codes and that was the problem as you correctly surmized. Since I use the Master Code to arm/disarm, it wasn't picking up the 339/344 ContactID codes that I had put in (thinking that was all that I needed). All is working now, and I think I can even answer questions on the forum at this point after a day of entering ContactIDs for all the sections! :) Thank you for your helpful response. It is so great to be able to get help with such specific things such as this. It was even kind of fun learning how the alarm system really works. By the way, I'm using A1 'O/C by User' and it reports who armed/disarmed which is nice. NextAlarms web interface for the reported codes is really nice. Been testing it out since I got their service a couple of days ago, and it works really well - and with the ContactID format, you get very easy to read reporting codes.
Thanks again,
Chris

Great! This proves the point that while DSC manuals have some organization issues, if you use the index, and actually read the margin notes in the manual _and_ programming sheets, the information is there.
It just looks intimidating, because, quite frankly, DSC probably want's installers to take their classes, as does most alarm system brands.
