Besides waking up in a cold house in the mornings, I also get that very "frosty" look from my wife. I have a Bryant heat pump, model# 661AJ036-B and it's approx 14 yrs old. My problem is, when we get up in the mornings, the house is ice cold. The blower motor is running, but instaed of blowing hot air, it's blowing cool air and I think it's running throughout the night. When I get up and turn the t-stat off, wait about 5 minutes, turn it back on, all of a sudden I get warm air and of course in about an hr, it's warm enough to turn the t-stat down..Do I have a faulty t-stat?? Please help as I getting that "frosty" stare as I'm typing this. :o

Is the unit outside running as well when you get this cool air?
Isi there frost/ice on the unit?
What do you have for Aux heat? (Back up)

Thanks for replying back.. The unit outside is not running most of the time, even though the blower is running.. Also, the unit outside is free if any frost and it's not freezing up.. When I do turn on the aux heat, I do have heat for a while but even then that will get cool after several hrs.. Any suggestions??

I am also in NC and have the same problem, Heat pump outside is not running but air handler and internal heat strips provide some heat.
I have been advised to check the following but in my case all are ok and I am still without a working heat pump.
This is what I would check first:
Primary breaker is not tripped at meter.
Secondary breaker is not tripped at fuse box.
Fuse disconnect not tripped near heat pump.
No blockage in drain line or drain pan causing unit to shut off.
I hope somebody can shed some light on this for us before calling in a repair tech. How long can we coninue to heat our homes with just the internal heat strips ?

I looked at everything you did 5snakes and all seems to be in order.. I'm thinking we may have that one in a million problem that's so simple that it's hard..Gonna look at a few other things, but I think I'm gonna get out a few more conforters.

All the comforters in the world are not going to get your system working. Keep in mind your 14 yr old system is nearing the end of a HP's average life. Go ahead and call an Hvac pro so you can get warm and rid yourself of that icy stare!
Good LucK!
