I have some semi-transparent stained baseboards that I want to paint white. The baseboards are semi gloss.
I was going to sand them, prime them with an oil based primer, and then paint them.
When I sanded them, they ended up smoother than before I sanded, although the gloss was gone. They were actually kind of rough with the semi gloss finish.
Should I continue to sand them, or just prime over the stain I currently have on there?

Depending on what grit you used, that should work
They could "feel" smoother, even though the "gloss" was sanded off

I say wipe off the dust real good, and prime them.
A real light sanding after prime and before finish will help for a nice finish too.
