Since I’m planning to go professional, I may need a faster way to cut in trim and ceilings. Cutting a baseboard against a carpeted floor is particularly difficult. Can someone recommend techniques or tools for these tasks? I’m accustomed to using a steady hand, and masking tape when appropriate. But, I suppose there are better and faster ways.
Thanks!

Practice is the main ingrediant for speed and precision. Also it pays to have good brushes. With all the experience I have I would find it difficult to cut in with $2 brush. Wooster and Purdy are some of the best brushes.
Painting next to carpet is always a difficult task. I often tape the carpet - not so much to keep the paint off the carpet but to keep any fuzz or fibers out of the paint.

I find the carpet shields helpful when cutting in close to carpet. They help keep out the fuzz. You've got to be careful removing them though - do it before it dries, but not too soon that the paint drips down. And you've got to keep them clean otherwise you'll get chips of dried paint flaking off the plastic.
I second the Purdy brushes. Worth the expense! My fave is the 2.5" angle brush. World of difference between them and the cheap ones!
